MCHS Colleague Survey

All Mount Carmel Colleagues are encouraged to participate in the annual survey.  Details are below.

Colleague, Physician & Provider Survey: March 9-30

Our colleague, physician and provider annual survey will be conducted March 9–30. The survey will be facilitated by Safe & Reliable Healthcare, an internationally known company, recognized for its work in measuring and accessing safety, communication effectiveness, operational risk/safety, resilience/burnout in the workforce, and workforce engagement.
This survey provides a tremendous opportunity to gather the valuable opinions of our colleagues and physicians in a variety of areas, such as organizational culture, teams, managers, senior leaders, safety culture, mission and nursing excellence, and use them to enhance the experiences we create each day.
Our leaders at Mount Carmel take your feedback very seriously, and we strongly encourage all colleagues and physicians to participate in the upcoming survey.
  • You can rest assured that no identifying information will be linked to survey answers.  The survey is completely confidential according to our agreement with Safe & Reliable. The web-based survey does not track back to individuals’ computers.  Only Safe & Reliable will have access to the survey responses.
  • It should take 15-20 minutes to complete; time should be given during work to complete the survey.
  • Colleagues (hired before February 18, 2020), physicians and providers will receive the survey link and a unique access code via email from Safe & Reliable on March 9. Note: EVS and Nutrition Services colleagues will receive paper invitations that contain the survey link and unique passcode.
  • In addition to new questions and rating scales, for the first time, the former physician engagement survey will be harmonized with the 2020 annual survey.
Incentives
  • Departments achieving at least 80% participation by March 30 will have each colleague entered into a raffle to win 1,000 MOMENTS points—five colleague winners per care site.
  • Departments achieving at least 85% participation by March 30 will be entered into a raffle to provide light refreshments, desserts, snacks, etc. for the department's results-sharing and/or action-planning sessions—five department winners per care site.

about New PubMed....

You'll get the hang of it!!

You may have noticed that PubMed looks different.  New PubMed was introduced at the beginning of the year.  If you want to switch to the old version (or Legacy PubMed), click on the link at the top of the page.  PMIDs can still go into the top search box in New PubMed.  Enough librarians and other users complained, so they kept Single Citation Matcher, which can be found at the bottom of the page.  See image below for more guidance.

Here are links to training videos for New PubMed

Benefits of a Checklist

In his book, The Checklist Manifesto, Atul Gawande espouses the advantages of using checklists.  Many hospital departments have implemented checklists to become more efficient and reduce errors.

We all know the Library is not dealing with life and death situations, but we can also benefit from the Nightly Tasks sheet.  Even if you feel that you can do your tasks without one, please start using a sheet every night!  That way, you will be reminded to lock the laptop cabinet, turn off the TVs, shut the staff room door, etc.

The binder contains blank Task Sheets.  If you see that the supply is running low, go ahead and make more copies.   Also, feel free to suggest a new task or reminder to add to the Nightly Tasks sheet.  Noreen & Kaitlyn are always happy to hear your feedback.

Laptop Procedures

It's always good to have a refresher on Laptop procedures!!

Check Out Procedures:
  • Have client fill out Laptop Loan Agreement Form.  Complete Laptop Number, Power Cord Number & Mouse section.  Print & sign (or initial) the Check-Out section.
  • Put Form in appropriate spot in drawer.
  • Check out Laptop to client in Sierra.
Check In Procedures:
  • Make sure Laptop is powered OFF and that all parts are in the bag -- Laptop, Power Cord & Mouse.
  • Check in Laptop in Sierra.
  • Put Laptop back in cabinet.
  • Complete Check In section of Laptop Loan Agreement Form. Put Form in appropriate spot in drawer.
Before the end of your shift, check the drawer for any agreements for checked-out Laptops. If any agreement forms remain, check cabinet to see if Laptops were returned.  If a Laptops is here, double-check the client's record in Sierra to be sure that the Laptop is check in and no longer on client's account.  If a Laptop is still checked out, look for the client in the Library.  If you cannot find the client before closing, leave the Laptop Loan Agreement Form on Noreen or Kaitlyn's desk with a note indicating that the Laptop was not returned.

If you have any questions, ask Noreen or Kaitlyn.

APA Moves to 7th Edition

The 7th Edition of the APA Manual was released at the end of 2019.  All SDAP students are now required to use it.  We have copies of it on Closed Reserve.  See photo below to help you locate it.

If you get questions about how to do APA citations, please refer students to the Academic Resource Center (ARC) located on the 2nd floor of this building.  The phone number is 614-234-3654.

In addition, here are a couple of helpful links for the new APA:

Please let Noreen or Kaitlyn know if you have any questions.

Locking Laptop Cabinet

When you lock the Laptop Cabinet, be sure take the lock off and then hook the padlock around the latch so it lays flat (see example below).

Some are locking it in such a way that makes it is difficult to unlock.  When you try to lock it without taking the padlock off first, the result looks something like the example below.  Avoid this method!!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask Noreen or Kaitlyn.

Important Updates

New Year/New Date

When you are creating or updating Library accounts, remember the expiration date is one year from the given day.  So, make it 2021 (not 2020).

ExamSoft & Library Laptops

With the adoption of ExamSoft, many students will be borrowing laptops to access Examplify and take tests.  Please note that Laptops 13-20 are the only ones with ExamSoft loaded.  The other laptops do not have the capacity to be upgraded and support the ExamSoft platform.  This includes the MacBooks.  Currently, we are trying to load ExamSoft on iPads and will let you know if it works.

If students or faculty have questions about this, please direct them to Stevo or Noreen.

If you have questions about these or other matters, ask Noreen or Kaitlyn.
