Christmas Decorations!!

You will probably notice that we have decorated the Library for Christmas. This means that there are a few more things to do when closing the Library:
  • Unplug the lights on the small Christmas tree near the windows on the 3rd floor
  • Unplug the small glass tree on the book display in front of the 3rd floor computers
  • Unplug the lighted table top display next to the rocking chair near the bottom of the stairs
  • Turn off the power strip for the garland in the window behind the staircase - the power strip is up on the 4th floor against the wall near Liz's desk
  • Unplug the lights on the Christmas tree near the journal display on the 4th floor
ALSO, there is a second TV on the 4th playing the slideshow - this will also need to be turned off each night and the remote control for it has been placed in the drawer with the other TV remotes.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Just a few reminders this week about some Library policies that we have recently had several questions about from our clients:

1. Closed Reserves:

  •  can ONLY be checked out for 3 hours and MUST STAY IN THE LIBRARY
  • There are NO EXTENSIONS on these items

2. OhioLINK books:

  • We cannot waive overdue fines on these books
  • If a renewal is denied, we cannot override it
  • These cannot be returned and then immediately checked out to another client - they MUST be sent back to the owning Library and requested online by whomever wants to check them out

3. Laptops:

  • Laptops are for SAME DAY USE ONLY
  • Overdue fines WILL NOT BE WAIVED
  • Any special circumstances MUST be referred to Allison or Noreen, if it is after 5pm, the laptop will need to be returned by closing and one of us can talk with the client the following day about any additional check-outs

4. Printing

  • MCCN students may NOT print in the Library - they need to use the computer lab on the second floor
  • The Library does NOT provide supplies for the computer lab on the 2nd floor
  • Hospital Staff who are NOT also MCCN students may print in the Library by either using a flash drive or emailing a document to themself, which can be printed from the front desk computer. Hospital Staff do not have access to the 2nd floor computer lab

5. Mother's Room

  • The Mother's Room (rm 410 on the 4th floor) is for breast-pumping ONLY; it CANNOT be used for studying, meetings, etc.

As always, let us know if you have any questions!

Earbuds are Back!!

We have replenished our supply of earbuds and you will find them in the second drawer of the front desk, where the TV remotes and larger headphones are kept.

The earbuds are given out free for clients to keep, but please limit them to one per person - ask the client to sign the clipboard when they are given a pair and check that their name does not already appear on the list as having gotten them.

Just a reminder, the larger headphones are for temporary check-out and cannot be taken out of the Library.

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

New 'Text for Noise' Signs posted in Library

Just FYI, we have placed signs on the study tables in the common area reminding everyone that the Library is intended to be a QUIET STUDY space. The signs also give the Library text number that students can use if they do not want to be seen complaining about their peers.

You will not need to do anything different as a result of this, but it is something to be aware of in case anyone asks questions about it. Text messages will show up on Library Staff Webchat and someone will come promptly to ask the noisy group(s) to quiet down.

Chromebooks Now Available for Check-out

We have added 10 Chromebooks to our Library laptop collection. The chromebooks are being stored in the single cabinet next to the main laptop cabinet (where we used to keep printer paper). A key lock has been added to this cabinet and the two small gold keys on a single ring are in the mug with all other keys. Remember to lock this when you close and put the key back in the mug before closing the workroom door.

The Chromebooks will work just like the laptops in terms of checkout:
  •  Use the same laptop forms and mark 'C' plus the number, to indicate Chromebook (like we do 'M' for macs)
  • Chromebooks are due by Library closing, just like the laptops

In case you did not already know, here is some info about Chromebooks (how they work and what they can do):
  •  Basically mini-laptops that can only access Google Chrome and related applications (Gmail, Google docs, etc.)
  • When someone starts using one, they will login in with their own Google credentials – the MCCN emails are actually Gmail accounts, so ALL students have a login that will work on these.
  • They can also use a personal Google login or 'Browse as Guest' (an option in the lower left corner of the home screen).
  • Once logged in they will be able to directly access their own Gmail, Google docs, etc.
  • There is no ability to access other browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari) or Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • ATI testing does seem to be working on them
Please take a moment to get one out, login, and see what these look like so you will have an idea of what to expect if you are asked a question. If you have any questions, let Allison or Noreen know.

Changes to Workspace

You will probably notice that the Library workroom looks a little different - we used Fall Break as an opportunity to do a much needed clean out and re-arrangement of our space! Here are the most important changes that you'll need to know about:
  • The copiers have been moved out to the front desk area, just inside the Library front doors - this will make it easier for us to refill paper and help our clients use them without having to leave the front desk entirely
  • The candy cabinet is now under the front desk printer - much  more convenient to refill the candy dish!
  • The microwave is on the counter by the sink
  • The supply cabinets and drawers have been cleaned and re-organized - everything is still back there it just may have moved to a different cabinet or drawer - let us know if you can't find something you need
  • The 3rd floor TV has moved to the other side of the computer stations (you may have noitced this before you left for break) and a TV has been added by the 4th floor computers - you do not need to do anything with this one for now

REMINDER: SHUT DOWN LAPTOPS WHEN RETURNED

Just a quick reminder to ALWAYS check that laptops are shut down completely when they are returned before putting them back in the cabinet. When they are stored while turned on, even in sleep mode, they easily overheat and then cannot be used until they cool down and charge again.

Check EVERY LAPTOP, EVERY TIME and make sure it is OFF, not just in sleep mode.

  • On the Macs this is pretty obvious - but you can double check by moving the mouse around to see if the screen comes on.
  • On the PCs, sleep mode can be deceiving - look at the power button and if it is slowly lighting up blue and then going off again, the laptop is ON and asleep; you will need to push the power button to bring it out of sleep mode, login and then shut down the computer using the Start menu in the lower left corner of the screen.
Let Allison know if you have any questions.

Rm 410 re-opens as Mothers' Room

The transformation of room 410 into the 'Mothers' Room' is complete. The room is now reserved ONLY for pumping - it is not to be used as a study or 'nap room.' The room can be booked online using the room reservations website: there are two separate listings so that two people can use it at the same time (there is a privacy curtain separating the two spaces).

When someone comes to use the Mothers' Room Library staff will need to:
  • Walk upstairs with the person and unlock the door
  • Instruct the person to stop by the front desk when they are finished in the room
  • After the person has left, go back upstairs and make sure that the room is clean, the lights are off, and the door is locked (there is a button lock on the back of the door or it can be locked with the key)
The key is on a magnet clip by the work study schedule just inside the workroom door, where it will be easily accessible. The lock can be tricky - you need to turn the key and handle up to open it - take a minute during your shift today to go try it and let Allison know if you have trouble.

In the evening, if you are the only one here, you will need to put up the 'We will return in a few minutes' sign when you go upstairs to lock/unlock the room.

Please let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

Room 410 Transformation

You may have heard that room 410, (previously Study Room 4), is being changed into a "Mothers' Room" for breastfeeding mothers who need a place to pump in private. The room has been temporarily removed from the Room Bookings calendar online and the door is currently locked. New furniture is being moved in and the walls are being repaired and painted. The room is closed for use until the transformation is complete.

When it re-opens as the 'Mothers' Room' it will be reserved for that purpose ONLY and will be locked when not in use. The room will have space for two people at a time, if needed, with the use of a privacy screen. Advance online reservations will be available as will 'emergency' use, all during Library staffed hours only. The room will have armchairs, side tables, two electrical outlets, a privacy screen and clorox wipes/hand-sanitizer.

Please feel free to let other students know that this space will soon be available, but room 410 will no longer be a study space.

UPDATED LAPTOP LOAN AGREEMENT FORMS

The laptop checkout forms have been re-formatted to fit on one side of a page. This was done so that the person checking out the laptop can readily see what they are signing. The procedure and rules remain exactly the same (laptops are for single day use ONLY and must be returned by closing), the form just looks a little different.

The forms are in the same place and those printed on white paper are for regular use. The bright green forms are for weekend check-outs on FRIDAYS ONLY and require ALLISON or NOREEN's signature.

Take a look at the new form to familiarize yourself with the format.

As always, let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

SIMPLIFIED DAILY CHECKLIST!

Since the Cristo Rey students complete the majority of tasks on the existing Work Study Daily Checklist, I have shortened and simplified it to be only an opening/closing procedure checklist for you to complete each time you open or close the Library.

The new checklist will be on a clipboard at the front desk and should be completed EVERY TIME you open or close the Library.

There are no new tasks to complete, it simply serves as a double check that everything is done each day. This is especially important at closing as a security issue for the laptops and back office.

As always, let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

Terminology Change

We have changed the term for off-campus login from 'barcode' to 'password.' What needs to be entered has NOT changed, its just what we are calling it. The term 'barcode' caused a lot of confusion, so we have switched it to 'Password' which we hope is a more familiar term. User will now be prompted to enter their 'Last Name and Password' when logging in from home, accessing their accounts online, and using OhioLINK.

Just to review, the passwords (barcodes) for the different client groups are as follows:
  • MCCN Students: six-digit student ID number
  • MCHS employees: initials and associate ID (ex: ab123456) OR four by four ID (ex. abcd1234)
  • Residents & Doctors: d-number, including lower case 'd' (ex: d12345)
There are instructions for students to look up their student ID numbers on our website library.mchs.com/off-campus-access

Welcome Back!!!

There are a couple of important changes and reminders for the new school year - please read through everything carefully and let Kaitlyn or Noreen know what questions you have:

1. We will NO LONGER WAIVE FINES ON LIBRARY LAPTOPS. Laptops MUST be returned the day they are checked out or fines of $20 per day WILL BE CHARGED. The ONLY exception to this is weekend check-outs, which will be allowed from Friday - Monday ONLY. Laptops checked out on Friday and not returned by close on Monday will accrue fines of $20 per day. There are new laptop loan agreements in a display holder above the laptop cabinet that make this very clear, but please be sure to TELL EVERYONE WHO CHECKS OUT A LAPTOP about this policy change - several students last year became accustomed to keeping laptops for several days without penalty.

2. Please remember that MCCN Students may NOT PRINT IN THE LIBRARY - they should use the 2nd floor computer lab. Physicians and hospital employees may print at the front desk with permission - please check with Noreen or Allison if someone requests this.

3. REMEMBER THAT FINES ON OhioLINK BOOKS CANNOT BE WAIVED. We will generally still waive fines on our MCHSL books unless there is a continuing problem with a particular client.

4. MCCN Students automatically have 24/7 Library access added to their student ID badges - they SHOULD NOT fill out the online request form. Physicians and nurses who work primarily at MCW also now have 24/7 access on their employee badges. Please refer anyone else who asks about 24/7 to Allison

SUMMER LIBRARY HOURS

The following is the schedule of Summer Hours for the Library:

Monday: 8am - 5pm
Tuesday: 8am - 5pm
Wednesday: 8am - 5pm
Thursday: 8am - 5pm
Friday: 8am - 5pm
Saturday: CLOSED
Sunday: CLOSED

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL NOT BE OPEN ON SATURDAYS this summer as we have been in the past. Students can still enter the Library anytime using their badges, but will only be able to access closed reserve books during the above open hours.

REMINDER: EVERYONE ENTERING THE LIBRARY MUST HAVE A BADGE

For security reasons, we can ONLY admit MCCN students and MCHS colleagues to the Library, ALL of these people should have a badge of some sort. If you see someone looking lost or like they do not belong, either ask them if you may help them (if you feel comfortable doing so) or ask Noreen, Allison, Stevo or any other Library staff for help.

We CANNOT provide service to hospital visitors or to student/colleague family members. If a hospital visitor or colleague family member wants to use a computer, there are still computers available in the 777 W. State St. building, where the Consumer Health Library used to be located.

We are no longer offering patient library services to the hospital, so if nurses or patients call asking for books, magazines or movies please inform them that we no longer offer this service and extend our apologies.

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

Sierra Reminder

IMPORTANT

Sierra is a shared system with many other colleges throughout Ohio. This means that when you search for someone's name, you may see accounts for people at other colleges. MAKE SURE that the account you are accessing is MOUNT CARMEL account. It will say MTCAR or MCCN in the PType field, as below:

If you find an account with the correct name, but it DOES NOT SAY MTCAR or MCCN, IT IS NOT THE CORRECT ACCOUNT.

BE SURE TO LOOK FOR THIS WHEN CHECKING OUT ITEMS TO OUR PATRONS, we have had a few items be checked out to library users from other schools lately and this causes a problem because we can't always figure out who really has the item.

Some of our staff and students also have existing accounts at other schools if they transferred or teach as adjuncts, but they MUST USE THEIR MOUNT CARMEL ACCOUNT TO CHECK OUT OUR BOOKS.

REMEMBER: Hospital staff accounts are not automatically created, so it is very possible that our users, especially those asking for ACLS and BLS books, will need a new account made.

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions!

NEW ACLS Books

We have received the new 2016 ACLS Provider Manuals, which will IMMEDIATELY replace the old 2010 version.

Noreen is in the process of cataloging all 200 new books, and several are already available on the shelf.

ALL 2010 ACLS and BLS manuals that are returned should be given to Noreen so that they can be removed from the catalog (DO NOT PUT THE OLD BOOKS BACK ON THE SHELF).

As always, if someone wants office delivery of an ACLS book, be sure that they have a current account including their current work location.

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions!

ATI UPDATE

The Library computers have been updated in order to allow ATI Testing to work properly. ATI Testing should now be working on all six public desktop computers on the 3rd floor and the HP laptops (NOT the Macs). Firefox is the browser of choice for ATI on these computers.

The 4th floor public computers are currently able to run ATI Testing Using Internet Explorer, but these are administered by the hospital IT department and will NOT be updated if ATI stops working.

SO, we should recommend that students needing to complete ATI testing use the 3rd floor desktops or HP laptops with Firefox as the browser.

ATI Testing also works in the 2nd MCCN computer lab.

PLEASE let Allison or Don know immediately if issues are reported so that we can follow-up as we have been assured that everything is working.

LAPTOP REMINDER

This is nothing new, but just a few reminders about laptop check-in/out:

  • ALWAYS complete both the PAPER form and the SIERRA check-out AND CHECK-IN. We have had several laptops recently that are not being checked in on the paper form
  • We are not longer allowing extended check-outs of any kind. ALL LAPTOPS MUST BE RETURNED THE SAME DAY.
  • When laptops are returned, remember to check that they have been POWERED OFF BEFORE PUTTING BACK IN THE CABINET
  • When closing the Library, remember to lock the laptop cabinet
  • NO documents are saved on the laptops once they are logged out; users should ALWAYS SAVE TO AN EXTERNAL DRIVE OR EMAIL THE DOCUMENT TO THEMSELF BEFORE LOGGING OFF. We recently had a student lose a paper because she did not heed this advice; when this happens we have no way of recovering the documents.

Workroom Refrigerator

You are always welcome to use the workroom refrigerator to store your food and drinks, but please try to remember to remove unwanted items promptly. In order to maintain space and keep things sanitary, items left in the refrigerator will be thrown away on a regular basis. If you do want to keep something in the fridge for multiple days, please write your name and a desired 'toss date' on the item with a permanent marker.

Thanks!

New 4th Floor TV

We got a new TV on the 4th floor and have removed the one that was there on the movable stand. The new one is mounted on the wall above the staircase. Below are step by step instructions for turning on the new TV and starting the slideshow when you open the Library:

The remote control is in the drawer and has a label that indicates it is for the 4th floor TV. To begin the slideshow follow these steps:

1. Press the Power button to turn the TV on

2. Push the Input button

3. Use the Arrow buttons to scroll to USB on the input list (it is last on the list so you can either scroll all the way down or push the up arrow once to find it

4. Select USB

5. Select Photo

6. Select Root (the picture of a file folder); you will then seen all of the slides and each one should have a checkmark beneath it

7. Press the Blue 'C' button at the very bottom of the remote to begin the slideshow

At the end of the day, when you are closing the Library, simple power off the TV just as you do with the others.

Please let me know if you have any questions or trouble operating the TV

ATI Testing on Library Computers

We have been having an increasing number of complaints that ATI Testing does not work on Library desktop or laptop computers. Don, Christina and I did some investigating and have determined a series of steps that will allow it to work. The following steps will need to be done each time ATI Testing is accessed:

1. You must use Mozilla Firefox browser

2. Navigate to ATI Testing website and login

3. You may see a screen that says 'Silverlight needs to be activated'          a. Click 'Activate Silverlight'

          b. Another window will open asking if you want to allow this; click 'Allow and Remember'

4. Refresh the browser window, by highlighting the URL and pressing 'Enter.'

5. Your test should now begin loading

I have created a small flyer with these steps that can be given out to students who are having trouble using ATI on our computers. The flyers on on the front desk, next to the candy bowl, where the 24/7 Access handouts used to be.

Please let me know if you have any questions or further reports that this is not solving the problem.

NEW: 10-Digit Dialing for Local Calls

As you may have already heard, the Columbus area has recently been assigned a third area code (in addition to 614 and 740) and ALL LOCAL CALLS NOW REQUIRE THE FULL TEN DIGITS - area code + phone number.

To call out from a Mount Carmel phone, such as the Library front desk phones:

  • To a '614' number: dial 9 + 614 + phone number
  • To a long distance (non 614) number: dial 9 + 1 + area code + phone number
The send faxes:
  • FOR ALL FAXES: Dial 9 + 1 + area code + phone number

When giving the Library phone number to clients, you should provide them with the full 10-digit number: 614-234-5214

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

LibAnalytics Update

We have updated LibAnalytics, the online system we use to collection statistics and where you enter the tasks you do at the front desk. You will notice that the page looks very different; a few fields have been removed and there are a few new ones you will need to enter.

Please look over the new system and set up a time to go over it with Allison--this will just be about 5 minutes during your shift. We are trying to make our statistics collection more consistent so it is very important that you are entering EVERY client interaction in this system CORRECTLY.

A & P Lab Manual No Longer Available

We have permanently removed the Anatomy & Physiology Lab Manual from the Closed Reserve shelf and will no longer have copies available for student use. A large number of students have been photocopying the closed reserve copy on a weekly basis instead of buying the book, which is a violation of course policy (this is a required text for the course) and a serious copyright violation.

If students have questions or complaints, please refer them to Dr. Loscko, who can explain that students are required to purchase their own copy of this book for her class.

Currently, this only applies to the A & P Lab manual and I will provide updates if any of the other lab manuals are removed from the closed reserve shelf.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Special Logins for Two Resources

We have two recently added/updated resources that require users to call the library for special logins in order to access them. These are the OB/GYN ABOG Articles and the Policy and Procedure textbook for N579.

When someone calls asking for the login information for either of these resources, you first need to confirm their status as an MCHS Ob/Gyn or MCCN student, respectively.

To confirm MCHS physician status:

        1. First check in Sierra for a library account, if there is a current account, you don't need to do anything else.

        2.  If there is NOT an account or if it has expired, you MUST check Insight to confirm that the physician works for Mount Carmel:

                       a. Open a new window using Internet Explorer and Insight will be the homepage

                       b. use the search box at the top of the Insight page to search by LAST NAME ONLY for the physician who is requesting access; you may need to change the drop down menu selection from 'Associate' to 'Physician' to get a result

                       c. confirm that the person you are speaking to appears in Insight; if so you may provide the log in information

                      d. If the name produces no match, transfer the call to Allison or Noreen or take down contact information for one us to get back with the physician if it is after hours/Saturday.

To confirm MCCN Student status:

         1. Check Sierra for a STUDENT account under the caller's name. As long as there is a current student account, you may provide the login information.

The actual login information that you will provide to the caller is located in the Codex binders at the front desk. It is on the page of logins in the Computers/TVs section, the same place where you would find the Sierra login information.

Please take a moment to locate this page so that you are able to access it quickly when someone calls. If you cannot find it, let Allison or Noreen know and we will show you.

As always, also let us know if you have any questions.

REMINDER: ACLS & PALS BOOK REQUESTS

We have been getting an increasing number of requests for ACLS & PALS books from hospital staff and have had some issues with consistency in handling such requests. Please CAREFULLY READ the instructions below and let Allison or Noreen know if you have ANY QUESTIONS OR ARE UNSURE ABOUT ANY PART OF THIS PROCESS.

When someone calls or comes in to request an ACLS or PALS book (or any other item), COMPLETE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS BEFORE THE PATRON HANGS UP/LEAVES the front desk:

1. Check Sierra to confirm that the patron has a current Library account

              a. If an account is found with a matching name, check at least ONE OTHER identifying     detail - home address or barcode are recommended - to ensure that the account does not belong to someone else with the same name. To check barcode ask the patron to confirm his/her Associate ID or four by four

              b. If no account is found, you will need to create one. SEE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS BELOW FOR COMPLETE ACCOUNT SET UP!

2. Place the patron on hold and check the shelf behind the desk to make sure the desired book is available; if so, take a copy back to the front desk with you to put on hold for the patron

              a. If no copies of the needed book are available, let the patron know that there is a waitlist    for the item and that NO GUARANTEES can be made regarding when one will become available. Provide Allison or Noreen with the patron's name, desired book, and pick-up/delivery preference (i.e. are they going to come here and get it or do they want it sent to their work location?). The patron will need an account in order to place a hold, so make sure this is complete regardless of current book availability.

3. If the patron wants the item sent to their work location DOUBLE CHECK THAT WE HAVE THEIR COMPLETE AND CURRENT WORK LOCATION LISTED on their account. This means that we have both the hospital (MCE, MCW, MCSA, MCNA) AND the name or floor of the unit where they work (for example 'Emergency dept. or 3 North), then check the item out to the patron and give it to Allison with the first and last name and full work location.

4. If the patron wants to pick the item up here, DO NOT CHECK IT OUT, but give it to Allison with the patron's name for a hold to be placed.

CREATING COMPLETE PATRON RECORDS IN SIERRA

Full detailed instructions with screenshots of each field that should be included in a new account and how it should be formatted are in the printed Sierra manual at the front desk, they are in the GREEN SECTION of the manual. Please refer to this EACH TIME YOU CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT to ensure that ALL of the needed information is included in the proper fields.

REVIEW THIS SECTION OF THE MANUAL DURING YOUR SHIFT TODAY AS AN INITIAL REMINDER. REPETITION IS THE BEST WAY TOO LEARN. FEEL FREE TO CREATE A SAMPLE ACCOUNT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PRACTICE; IT CAN BE EASILY DELETED LATER

A FEW VERY IMPORTANT AND FREQUENTLY MISSED PIECES FOLLOW:

1. LAST NAME IS ALWAYS LISTED FIRST IN SIERRA, for example 'Erlinger, Allison', NEVER Allison Erlinger

2. We MUST have A COMPLETE WORK LOCATION to send items to other sites. This means having BOTH THE HOSPITAL SITE AND THE NAME OR LOCATION OF THE UNIT. If the person works at a non-hospital site, for example a medical group or clinic, CHECK WITH ALLISON BEFORE ENDING THE CONVERSATION, as we cannot send items to all locations

3. UNIVERSITY ID AND BARCODE ARE TRICKY BUT VITAL:

             a. UNIVERSITY ID ALWAYS HAS 'mc' AT THE END REGARDLESS OF TYPE OF     PATRON

             b. BARCODE is IDENTICAL TO UNIV ID WITHOUT THE 'mc'

             c. FULL INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT TO USE FOR DIFFERENT PATRON TYPES ARE IN THE MANUAL, BE SURE TO CHECK EACH TIME

AGAIN PLEASE REVIEW THE GREEN SECTION OF THE SIERRA MANUAL TODAY AND REFER TO IT EACH TIME YOU CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT AND LET ALLISON OR NOREEN KNOW IF YOU ANY QUESTIONS OR ARE UNSURE ABOUT ANY PART OF THIS PROCESS, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THIS IS DONE CORRECTLY SO THAT OUR LIBRARY USERS RECEIVE REQUESTED BOOKS IN A TIMELY MANNER.

4th floor Door Code Changed

Effective today (1-13-16), the key code for the 4th floor Library door has been changed. The new code will be shared with work study students as needed to complete assigned Library tasks.

This is also a reminder that the DOOR CODE IS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL - it may NOT be used outside of Library working hours or shared with any non-Library staff.

New Charging Station

We are very pleased to announce the addition of a new charging station in the Library! It is currently located on the display in front of the third floor TV and has chargers for IOS and Android phones and tablets.

The charging station will be left on 24/7 and Library users can feel free to plug in their devices any time.

WELCOME BACK!!

We hope you had a restful winter break! We thought it would be useful to begin the new semester with a few IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1. Please be mindful about having extended conversations with friends when working at the front desk. We love when visitors want to stop and chat, but large groups gathered at the desk for long periods can inhibit other patrons from approaching for assistance. Please limit social conversations to a few minutes while working.

2. Remember to check laptops IN and OUT both in SIERRA AND ON THE PAPER FORMS. Also remember to check that all components are present in the laptop bags when checking in and out. Remind patrons that LAPTOPS ARE DUE BY THE END OF THE DAY and refer requests for longer check-outs to Allison or Noreen - we are limiting this due to some recent issues.

3. ALWAYS complete the checklist when opening or closing the library - it includes some small things that we all tend to forget from time to time.

4. Please make sure students are aware of the 3-hour time limit on closed reserve book check-outs. We have a new group of SDAP students who may not yet be familiar with the system and we want to make sure that the closed reserves are regularly available to use in the Library.

As always, please let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions or post them in the comments section. We appreciate all of you hard work and hope your semester is off to a good start!
