FINAL EXAMS ARE 4/30/18-5/4/18

Finals are here, and we know this time in the semester can be especially stressful. We here at the library would like for you to take a few minutes and be reminded of a few things.
  1. Finals are hard, but don't hurt yourself studying for them.
  2. Make sure you take some time to decompress. (It's good for you, it really is)
  3. Classes are hard, but you have worked hard this whole semester. Now is your time to show off what you have learned, which is A LOT!
  4. With summer break right around the corner take some time for fun! (Yes, even if you have a summer job...or 3) This will keep you from being bored and missing all of us here at the MCHS Library too much.
  5. With that being said, doing nothing can also be really, really nice.

  6. Most importantly, never forget...

Please Do NOT Leave your Email and Personal Pages Open on the Circulation Computers

It is perfectly fine for you all to access your email and other sites while at work in the library. However when your shift is over PLEASE log out of your personal email and close all pages and documents that you had opened. This is to keep your personal information safe!

The same rules apply for students who use the computers to print in color. Always remind them to log out of their email and all other sites that they may have opened.

Finally even if it is not your assigned cleaning task for the day, please take a look at the circulation desk area during your shift and clean and straighten it if the area looks messy. Also when you leave at the end of your shift please push in your chair and take one last look around that the circulation area is neat and tidy.

As always your safety is our #1 concern, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to talk to Kaitlyn or Noreen.

Nursing Certification Collection

There is a new part of our collection that you all should be aware of, because nurses are going to be asking for them more frequently! The books will be located below the hold shelf, next to the copier on shelves marked Nursing Certification Books.

There are a few individual specialties in this new collection, and they are as follows: Adult Critical Care Nursing, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, Maternal Newborn Nursing, Neuroscience Nursing, & Pain Management Nursing. The books are in call number order, not in the order of each collection.

In order to make it easier for everyone to see the print books for a given specialty, Noreen created a list of Print resources for each of the specialties listed above. These lists are kept in a bright green folder at the beginning of the shelf and is marked "Certification Readings Shelf List."  It will help us if a nurse comes in wanting all the books for a given specialty. There are electronic books for these collections, but if there is no print copy as well, the electronic title is not listed in the folder.

A comprehensive list of all print books as well as electronic books can be found here:https://library.mchs.com/nurses/nursing-certifications
Please take a minute during your shift and familiarize yourself with this page.

If a nurse is looking to access the e-books please make sure they have a library account and then direct them to the above site.

When checking in these books they all have a pop-up message in Sierra saying "Shelve Behind Desk" to remind you of their home.  When users are searching in the online catalog, they will see the note "Ask at Circ Desk" just like they would for an ACLS or PALS book.

Please let Noreen or Kaitlyn know if you have any questions or concerns!

As you all know all persons entering the library after hours are required to swipe in using their badge. Also during the day, however, all persons entering into the library should also have a badge or an escort from Mount Carmel.

If you notice someone in the library who does not have a badge or a Mount Carmel escort, and you do not recognize them please let Kaitlyn or Noreen know and they will address the situation with the person. If you are ever in the library at night after all other staff have left you can call the non-emergency number for safety and security (5-5792) and explain the situation to them. An officer will then come and speak with the person and figure out if they are actually allowed to be here or not.

Your safety is our number 1 concern, so when in doubt call for backup!

Pick Up Anywhere!

Pick up anywhere is not something that we deal with often, but it does come up occasionally and we want you to be prepared!

Identifying a Pick-Up Anywhere Material

The first thing you need to be able to do with Pick-Up Anywhere (PUA) materials is identify them. PUA materials will always have NEON Green on them. The materials will either have a paper band on them like above, or there will be green on the sticker it will also say "Pick-Up Anywhere" on it. If you have any questions as to if a material is PUA or a normal OhioLINK material you can ask Kaitlyn or Noreen.

Checking Out a PUA Material

Checking out a PUA material is a little different than checking out a regular material. Please follow the steps below and be sure to ask Kaitlyn if you have any questions along the way.
  1. Select "Pick-Up Anywhere" from the function drop-down menu

2. Type in the patron's name (last name, first) to open their record *Please note there is no need to put the letter "n" before their name

3. Items that are on the hold shelf will have the status of "Received" Items that are in transport will have the status of "Shipped"

4. Check the box next to the item that you want to check out, then click "Process"

5. Once you have clicked "Process" the status will now display the Due Date. (once you see the due date you know the book has been successfully checked out and you can give the patron the book)

Checking In a PUA Material

Place on Kaitlyn's desk with a note saying that the book needs returned.

Check the Flip-Book

All of this information and more can be found in the flip book to the left of the main circ. desk computer. read through it to find more detailed instructions on this process and more! And as always if you have any questions please ask Kaitlyn, she is more than happy to help!

Laptop Check Out Forms are IMPORTANT!

Laptop checkout forms need to be filled out when the laptop is checked out to the client, as well as when it is returned. You all do a wonderful job of filling out the forms when the laptops are checked out, but filling out the form is often forgotten upon the return of the computer. Please remember that the laptop check in process is not complete until you fill in the check in portion of this form. Please make sure that you fill in these forms entirely!

NIGHTLY TASK CARDS

Students who close the library at night: PLEASE DO THE TASK THAT IS ASSIGNED TO YOU FOR THAT NIGHT.

Every closing shift you will be left a task card (on the closing check list) that has a cleaning or organizational task for you to do at some point during your shift. You are left two cards each night. Please do the card that is face up, if for some reason you can not do that card please do the card that is face down. At the end of your shift please place the card of the task that you completed on Kaitlyn's desk. It is getting to the point where night workers are signing off that they completed their task, without ever actually doing them.

Please speak with Kaitlyn if you have any questions or concerns.
