LibAnalytics Update

We have added a new option to LibAnalystics (the online data collection tool where we record statistics). You will now see in the far right column an box marked "Turn-Away" - we are going to use this to track how often clients ask for things that are unavailable. For example, when someone wants to check out a laptop and there are none in the cabinet, or all the copies of a particular closed reserve textbook are already checked out when someone asks for it.

Whenever this happens, choose an answer from the Turn-Away drop down menu that matches what was unavailable for the client. If it is a closed reserve book, type the title in text entry box below the drop down menu.

This will help us to determine what we might need to buy more of in order to best serve our Library clients!

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

REMINDER - LAPTOPS

Just a quick reminder that laptops need to be scanned in Sierra AND signed in and out using the paper form - we have had several laptops returned but not scanned in Sierra in the past couple of weeks. Since we do actually charge overdues on these ($20/day) please be sure to check them in using Sierra when they are returned. Thanks!

Room Reservations - UPDATE

ALL room reservations are now limited to 4 hours per booking. Back to back bookings can be made, but each one cannot exceed 4 hours. The former copy room (room 307), where the Creative Station and exam bed are located is now also available for reservation. It has been added to the online system and there is a sign holder outside the door the daily booking schedule.

Please let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

Big Change to Leisure Collection!!

As of the new year, we have completely changed how to leisure collection works - it is now a "Take a Book, Leave a Book" system with no check-outs required. See Noreen's Rapper announcement below and PLEASE NOTE: THIS INCLUDES ONLY LEISURE BOOKS - NOT BUSINESS. So, if it has the briefcase sticker on the side, it still gets checked out and returned as normal; if it has the pick Leisure sticker, it is free to take!!

Changes to the Leisure Reading Collection Did you get a book as a gift but don't want to read it?  Do you have paperbacks you need to get rid of?  Consider giving them to the Library.  We started a new program where you can take a book or leave one.  We will no longer require you to check out anything from our Leisure Reading collection – it will be on the honor system.  Simply bring a gently used book and give it to a Library Staff member.  If you want to take one, help yourself to our selection.  Maybe you will find a real page-turner!
Also, you can add that we pulled many non-fiction medical titles and moved them to the General Text Collection.  This includes assigned books, Tuesdays with Morrie, Henrietta Lacks, etc.

Please let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

Christmas Decorations!!

You will probably notice that we have decorated the Library for Christmas. This means that there are a few more things to do when closing the Library:
  • Unplug the lights on the small Christmas tree near the windows on the 3rd floor
  • Unplug the small glass tree on the book display in front of the 3rd floor computers
  • Unplug the lighted table top display next to the rocking chair near the bottom of the stairs
  • Turn off the power strip for the garland in the window behind the staircase - the power strip is up on the 4th floor against the wall near Liz's desk
  • Unplug the lights on the Christmas tree near the journal display on the 4th floor
ALSO, there is a second TV on the 4th playing the slideshow - this will also need to be turned off each night and the remote control for it has been placed in the drawer with the other TV remotes.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Just a few reminders this week about some Library policies that we have recently had several questions about from our clients:

1. Closed Reserves:

  •  can ONLY be checked out for 3 hours and MUST STAY IN THE LIBRARY
  • There are NO EXTENSIONS on these items

2. OhioLINK books:

  • We cannot waive overdue fines on these books
  • If a renewal is denied, we cannot override it
  • These cannot be returned and then immediately checked out to another client - they MUST be sent back to the owning Library and requested online by whomever wants to check them out

3. Laptops:

  • Laptops are for SAME DAY USE ONLY
  • Overdue fines WILL NOT BE WAIVED
  • Any special circumstances MUST be referred to Allison or Noreen, if it is after 5pm, the laptop will need to be returned by closing and one of us can talk with the client the following day about any additional check-outs

4. Printing

  • MCCN students may NOT print in the Library - they need to use the computer lab on the second floor
  • The Library does NOT provide supplies for the computer lab on the 2nd floor
  • Hospital Staff who are NOT also MCCN students may print in the Library by either using a flash drive or emailing a document to themself, which can be printed from the front desk computer. Hospital Staff do not have access to the 2nd floor computer lab

5. Mother's Room

  • The Mother's Room (rm 410 on the 4th floor) is for breast-pumping ONLY; it CANNOT be used for studying, meetings, etc.

As always, let us know if you have any questions!

Earbuds are Back!!

We have replenished our supply of earbuds and you will find them in the second drawer of the front desk, where the TV remotes and larger headphones are kept.

The earbuds are given out free for clients to keep, but please limit them to one per person - ask the client to sign the clipboard when they are given a pair and check that their name does not already appear on the list as having gotten them.

Just a reminder, the larger headphones are for temporary check-out and cannot be taken out of the Library.

Let Allison or Noreen know if you have any questions.

New 'Text for Noise' Signs posted in Library

Just FYI, we have placed signs on the study tables in the common area reminding everyone that the Library is intended to be a QUIET STUDY space. The signs also give the Library text number that students can use if they do not want to be seen complaining about their peers.

You will not need to do anything different as a result of this, but it is something to be aware of in case anyone asks questions about it. Text messages will show up on Library Staff Webchat and someone will come promptly to ask the noisy group(s) to quiet down.
